Mac vs PC Who it help the most? Apple or Microsoft?

We all have seen either an Apple “Mac vs PC” ad or a Microsoft similar one. But all over the internet you can fin used created ads or parody of the ever long Mac Vs PC war.

I will said most of this content seems to be split about even on witch side the creator choses. But who does all this campaigns actually help? Apple? Microsoft? No One? Both?

In my opinion Microsoft is wasting its money in trying to fight Apple with a similar lined ads. At the end Apple is gaining the most exposure.

Like we all know most of the worlds computer runs on Windows. While I know that it maybe people out there that do not knows that Microsoft makes Windows. Most people does.

On the other hand. While virtually anyone will associate Apple with iPod and iPhone. A lot of them didn't even realized that Apple made computers as well.

So why Microsoft give Apple more free exposure? I think they should be focusing on their and only their on product. Comparing the difference between maybe Vista Basic & Home Premium.

On the other hand I believe Apple is right in attacking Microsoft because a lot of folks don’t actually know what the different it is. So it make sense to compare a PC vs a Mac.

I think Apple had saved a couple of millions in advertising by receiving so much exposure from user generated content using the Mac Vs PC scenarios and thanks to Microsoft for letting know in their ads that their is always an alternative to Windows even if it cost a premium.

What do you think? Have you seen any cool user generated content relating to Mac vs PC to share?

Human Brain Storge is 125mb.

Like me how many time you had ask if the bran has a storage limit? Or how much it will storage during a life?

I had look for this answer a couple of times and never when nowhere. Since pretty much I found was that no one knew for sure if the brain has a limit and if it does how much is it.

But ironically reading about a new 500gb holographic disk been made by General Electric I got an answer.

Do I believe it? While GE had many bright people working on it I think they wen't a bit below on their calculation.

Yes GE said that the new 500gb disk equals to 4000 times what the human brains stores in a life time.

Simple math put that number at just 125mb. For some reason I found it really low.

Millions of memories, images, dreams, language and so on.

I will keep looking for a more realistic number than GE 125MB.

"Incidentally, my least favorite part of the GE promo materials was the YouTube video that, at one point, declared that 500GB is "4,000 times more data than the human brain retains in a lifetime." So you're telling me that over the course of my entire life, my brain retains 125MB of data? What with the human brain being analog and all, any statistic that purports to say how many bytes of "data" the brain "stores" is bogus; but even if you're going to take some dramatic license and make up a number, it should at least be a very large one. Ultimately, I think we should stick to "libraries of congress" as the standard hyperbolic unit of data storage capacity."

What Logos Do You Remember The Most?

The world is full with millions of Logos. But what are the first one to come to your mind when you here the word Logo?

I will list the first 5 logos that came to my mind on backwards. So I will start with the 5th one first and go all the way up to the first one that pop up to my mind.

Number 5: "Nike" I bet this will be many people first as it can be find anywhere. I remember it also because of an article I once read at Inc on how it was conceive.

Number 4: "PEPSI" I know you will be saying Coca-Cola is more recognizable. But remember this are my five and I had always been addicted to PEPSI. I remember thinking how cool the moon will look painted with the PEPSI logo.

Number 3: "Cingular Wireless" I think the Orange guy was one of the best Logos ever made. It was so simple and so easy to associate that I think At&t made a mistake replacing it. It surely made them stand out as the Hip cell phone company.

Number 2: "Ford" I use to think when I was a kid that the blue oval logo was so old-school. but guess what it's the second logo to pop-up so that old-schooled logo really works.

Number 1: "Apple" This is the first one I always think of but not the current incarnation. the one I always remember is the old color striped one from the '80. My first computer was an Apple and my school computers back then were all Apple so maybe that influenced a lot.

So what are you must remembered logos? even if you don't like them.

My First Netbook

I have looked at Netbook as a sub-notebook not paying much attention to it. I had seem many people with it but always taught they were only a low budget alternative if you could not afford a "real" computer. But all that had change since i played with my friend HP Mini. They do not only feel comfortable a major surprise for me but the performance was good as well. I found that the HP Mini running on XP will be a good complement to my MacBook while on the road. I love my MacBook and take it everywhere but lets face it. i will be surfing more the Internet writing and doing more simple task if it were smaller easy to carry and light weight.

So after try the HP Mini I said to my self "well when Apple come out with a Netbook I will get one" But it seems they won't at least for now, So I decided to go with a none Apple product for the time being. It will probably be an HP or Acer and it will definitely will be running on XP while Linux version are cheaper I had never used Linux and will not like to start on a Netbook. I also saw a Android based story on a sub $200 netbook but is made by a no brand company and actually looks like a toy. I won't spent more than $500 but won't go with the cheapest either. So far the HP Mini 1000 Mobile Broadband
looks like the way to go.

I don't think the netbook will replace my MacBook ever but it will fill a gap between my notebook and my smart-phone.

Buying A New Car? Why Not A Ford?

Let's Go And Buy A New Car. But Make It A Ford.

Ok I know this is not the best time to be making big purchases. But if you are in the market for a new car why not a Ford?

Their are many valid reason for picking Ford as your new car company. I will start with value. I recently traded my 2007 Toyota Camry for a brand new Ford Fusion and I can't believe how good that felt. I had never purchased an American car for the same reason most people don't. Quality, value ans styling. We had become programed to see Japanese cars as the best value for you money but I don't think that's the case anymore. For the same price I paid for my Camry I got a fully loaded car that is not only better looking it also feels good on the road.

Another factor is the proud you feel by supporting the American auto industry and your country. Knowing that the new American built car are in line with their Asian counterpart in quality also helps tilt the balance.

So why a Ford and not GM or Chrysler?

Well to start Ford haven't borrowed any money from us the taxpayers and their strategy seems solid. So I am pretty confident Ford will be the biggest US auto company if not the only one and that's why I am betting on them.

I also considered the Chevy Malibu and almost fell for it. But it was almost $3000 more than the Fusion with similar specs. And I am no sure whats GM fate.

I had never written about or recommended a car company but I was so proud reading the better than expected result Ford had shown and knowing I helped by buying just one more car.

If you give Ford a drive you will see for your self what I mean. And you will also feel good knowing you my had helped to save at least one American job. So if your plans include a new car stop by a Ford dealer before heading for a Toyota or Honda one.

Yahoo Pulling The plug on Geocities

Not with a bang, but with a whimper. Yahoo! is unceremoniously closing GeoCities, one of the original web-hosting services acquired by Yahoo! in 1999 for $2.87 billion. (Fun venture fact: Fred Wilson's Flatiron Partners was an investor). In a message on Yahoo!'s help site, the company said that it would be shuttering Geocities, a free web-hosting service, later this year and will not be accepting any new customers. Existing customers will still be able to access use GeoCities but Yahoo! is encouraging these customers to upgrade to Yahoo!'s paid Web Hosting service.

GeoCities' traffic has been falling over the past year. According to ComScore, GeoCities unique visitors in the U.S. fell 24 percent in March to 11.5 million unique visitors from 15.1 million in March of 2008. Back in October, 2006, it had 18.9 million uniques.

Baby-shaking app raises questions about Apple

Apple's quick recall of a baby-shaking iPhone application in response to an uproar by consumers shone a spotlight on the company's opaque review process.

Apple has enjoyed a stunning success with its iPhone App Store, which recorded its 1 billionth download Thursday since opening for business in July. The store boasts 35,000 programs and is the undisputed leader in mobile apps.

But the baby-shaking app episode raises questions about how Apple deals with the flood of programs that are submitted and how it separates the approved apps from the ones that get rejected.

Apple said Thursday that Baby Shaker was a regrettable mistake. The 99-cent app encouraged users to quiet an onscreen baby's cries by shaking it to the point where Xs appeared on the eyes of the infant.

"This application was deeply offensive and should not have been approved for distribution on the App Store," said Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris.

However, Kerris declined to explain how the program made it through or whether changes are planned for the approval process, which screens apps for offensive content, copyright violations or technical problems. That review system has been frustrating for developers, who are often confused about where the line is for offensive material and are left to test the limits through trial and error.

Erica Sadun, an app developer and author of the iPhone Developer's Cookbook, said the baby-shaking app was a clear mistake by Apple. But she said she hopes that if Apple maintains its right to be gatekeeper for apps, it will be more transparent in its review process.

Developers now submit their apps to Apple, and within about a week, they are informed whether their apps have been approved. The rejections are often blanket statements about objectionable content, and developers are left to ponder what exactly the problem is. FULL ARTICLE

Microsoft's Downbeat Outlook

There was little optimism in remarks by Microsoft (MSFT) executives when they reported fiscal third-quarter results on Apr. 23. Chipmaker Intel (INTC) had said the PC business had bottomed when it announced earnings on Apr. 14. A few days later, IBM (IBM) gave investors glimmers of hope that the economy may be turning around. And whole divisions of Apple (AAPL) seemed to shrug off the recession entirely when the company's results soundly beat analysts' estimates on Apr. 22.

Microsoft, the world's largest software maker, is seeing no such rays of sunshine. In an Apr. 24 call with Wall Street analysts, Microsoft Chief Financial Officer Chris Liddell sounded downright morose. "We remain more cautious than most," he said. "While we'd all like to hope that the recovery will be short and painless, we unfortunately think it will be slow and difficult."

The numbers show why. In the fiscal third quarter ended Mar. 30, the company suffered the very first year-over-year sales decline in its history, with revenue slipping 6% to $13.65 billion. For starters, Microsoft is feeling the effects of a recession that has depleted demand for PCs. Businesses are hitting the brakes on new computer purchases, and many consumers are opting for new, low-cost netbooks that carry an older version of Windows that costs less than half the amount Microsoft gets for software on a full-featured PC. $100 Android powered Netbook

When I thing about Google, I thing about the biggest name on the Internet and possibly the whole IT industry. I think about the fastest growing company, I think about the latest technologies and the best new projects I have seen in the past years.
When I think about Skytone, I stop and search the internet for further documentation. Then I know I am thinking about a medium company from Guangzhou, China, that is famous for producing Skype headsets and very cheap computer for children.
Because of the two different ways I think about these two companies, it never would have crossed my mind that the first Google Android netbook will be produced by Skytone. Today, Skytone has presented on their website the new Alpha-680 Google Android netbook, available in pink, yellow red and black and with a price tag around $100+.
Like everyone guessed, the specifications for this nebook will be very low. It does come with a flip around touch screen and a built in game pad, but the overall production quality appears to be very low. At least, thanks to Skytone’s experience in Skype headsets and, benefitting from the ADSL, Etherned and WiFi internet connection capabilities, it should work well as a Skype phone.
While the price tag is actually lower than its specifications, I don’t see the use for such a netbook. It should at least provide more RAM memory and more local storage. While there is still hope, since this is not the only Google Android netbook, this should not be the first one to be announced.
In the following months, other Google Android netbooks will reach the market, with some unconfirmed rumors that Apple is planning to build such a netbook. Google Android can definitely be better used that this. But like I said before, there is still hope.
